The Nova Scotia Folk Club Open Stage Held in a quiet upstairs room af the Nova Scotia Hotel away from the busy bar, so no mic, no amplification, but an appreciative listening audience. £1 admission. Clifton, Lower Park Row, UNI of Bristol Folk Club, now back at The Ship Inn  at Lower Park Row, BS1 5BJ Meet every Monday from 9pm. We play in the downstairs room. Everyone welcome. Bring an instrument or come along to enjoy. Sessions are sometimes themed, mostly playing together with occasional solo spots.

Kingsdown - 1st Monday in month. The Hillgrove Pub On corner of Dove Street / Hillgrove Street North, Kingsdown BS2 8LT. Starts at 8pm. Hosted by Doreen Ashley and Stewart Sharkey. Clifton. The Somerset House Pub - weekly open mic in Clifton, 8-30pm start, hosted by Anthony Noel - The Somerset House is in Princess Victoria Street, just up the road from the Somerfield Store. There is a house piano available for those handy on the keys.
St Werburghs. Every Tuesday in upstairs room at the Miners Arms, Mina Road, BS2 9YQ. Hosted by Sarah Joy. No amplification, so purely acoustic. Low  lighting, candles and a few 'string-lights', attentive audience. Well-attended by both musicians and audience alike, despite small charge. Bedminster - At the Albert Inn Open Mic, hosted by Neil Murray - Start time 8-00pm - 11.00pm - Free drink for performers. It's all happening at 1 West Street, Bedminster, BS3 3NN - Facebook link

Greenbank - Extended playing hours - Weekly at at the Greenbank Pub, Bellevue Road (corner of Greenbank Road), Easton, BS5 6DP - Now hosted by Bill and 'Geordie Steve'. No room for drum-kits, but hand percussion welcome. PA system in situ, so anything that plugs in is ok. Now runs from 9.00pm till 11.00pm (and sometimes beyond)
Welsh Back - The Old Duke Open Mic evening hosted by Eddie Martin. Starts around 9pm. If you don't know the location, it's at Welsh Back, opposite the Llandoger Trow Pub, off Queen Square. There is a house Piano available for those handy on the keys.

Stokes Croft - LISTING CHANGE, STARTS 5th March - Weekly at the Full Moon Pub Bristol BS1 3PR, hosted by Bobby Anderson of 'Yes Rebels'- Starts at 8.00pm, there is a PA, please bring your own instruments. Good location map on Full Moon website. Bobby on Facebook

Glos Road - The Blue Lagoon Coffee Shop 20 Gloucester Road, on the 'Promenade' part with the wide pavement, near the Zetland Road traffic-lights. The new Open Mic host is Janec Lillis-James, and it has a rather nice new built-in PA system there. Starts around 8.45pm.
Stokes Croft - at The Junction - Monthly - Every first Tuesday of the month, starting 3rd November at 9.00pm. At 51 Stokes Croft BS1 3QP - Hosted by Nadine - One free drink per performer. Admission Free. All welcome. Facebook link

Fishponds - 2nd Tuesday of month at The Cross Keys Pub 627 Fishponds Road, BS16 3BA. Lots of info on the Folk Around Fishponds website. Free entrance. No amplification. Starts around 8pm. 
Nailsea - 2nd Tuesday in month. Nailsea Folk Club  Meet at the Grove Sports Centre, Nailsea, BS48 4NQ. Hosted by 'Rob and Rich'. All welcome to join in, or just sit back and relax with others in an older style folk club done in a 'sing-around' fashion.
Nailsea - The Blue Flame. Seems to be 1st and 3rd Tuesdays. Nailsea, West End. Starts 8pm/8.30pm, really informal singers / musicians night. Postcode BS48 4DE for those with Sat-Nav. Tel: 0127 585 6910 to save wasted journey.

Wednesday...

Hotwells. The Rose of Denmark, Open Mic. Nice pub atmosphere with space for performers and listeners in music section of the L-shaped bar. It's currently being hosted most weeks by Neil of 'Funkweed' starting around 8-30pm. There's a visitor's review HERE of one particular 'Rose of Denmark' Open Mic night. House piano available.

Centre. Open Mic night - CANCELLED - OWNER SELLING - the Bunch Of Grapes Denmark Street, near the Hippodrome. Hosted by Acoustic Satch. It kicks-off at about 8pm - 11pm. The open-mic area is away from the main bar, so tends to be occupied by people who are actually interested in the music. Facebook site

King Street - At the Sublime Bar, Bristol, BS1 4DZ - (by the Old Vic) which is run by James Wagstaff and  'InSession' - Starts 8.30pm till 11.00pm. Cheltenham Road - At Leftbank - (previously TAO Bar) 128 Cheltenham Road, BS6 5RW - Hosted by Oliver Dennison - Open stage kitted with a house guitar, drums and PA for musicians of all genres to showcase themselves. Starts around 8.30pm.

Centre - Open Mic night at Mr Wolfs 33 St Stephen's Street (off Baldwin Street) BS1 1JX - Now hosted by Jack Baldus - Starts at 8.30-ish. It's a weekly event, with a headline band to round off the evening after the Open Mic session has finished - Facebook Group Here

Totterdown - (on Bath Road) - Last Wednesday at The Thunderbolt Pub - 124 Bath Road BS4 3ED - Now being hosted by Katy Tucker and Dan Moore. There' a good map on the Thunderbolt website. All performers are welcome, whatever their musical style or genre. Facebook page here.

West Harptree - Spotlight Acoustic - NO LONGER RUNNING - VENUE PROBLEMS - at The Blue Bowl Pub.

Clevedon. The Moon and Sixpence Pub on Clevedon Seafront, at 15 The Beach, has an open mic evening with amplification, and the PA is set quite loud. It's a busy Pub. Open Mic starts around 8.30 - 9.00pm
Clevedon. The Royal Oak Pub at 35 Copse Road, Clevedon, Map Tel: 01275 873 075. Folk Night, people generally go along for a jamming session, everyone plays together/sings together, sometimes busy from the start, sometimes not till later on, any types of instrument or music.  Back room used is small and maybe room for up to 30 people. Can be a really interesting night and lots of fun. Starts about 8.30pm.

Pensford - First Wednesday of month. At the Rising Sun, Pensford, BS39 4AQ. Hosted by Andy Collins and Jacqui Haigh. It's held in a smallish room, with no amplification. Around 8.00pm start time.

Glos Road. The Somerville Club Open Mic, start at 8pm. On corner of Somerville Road and Upper Belmont Road, St Andrews, and difficult to find, so please use the location map. Stokes Croft - NEW VENUE STARTS 25th Feb - at The Arts House Cafe / Bar, 108 Stokes Croft, BS1 3RU - hosted by Antonia, starts at 8.00pm. Just one mic and and amp at present, but will be to be added to over coming weeks.

Broadmead - 2nd and 4th Thursday at The Bank Tavern, 8 John Street, BS1 2HR - In an alley which runs from near the bottom of Broad Street down towards the Central Police Station in Broadmead - It's a little tricky to find - Run by Neil Murray (aka 'Rufus T Firefly') from 8.30pm till midnight - PA in situ. Horfield - NEW VENUE STARTS 4th March - at The Old Fox, 301 Gloucester Road, Bristol BS7 8PE - 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 8.30pm - 11.30pm, hosted by "The 19 Sixties" (3-piece covers band) Tel: 0789 977 8443. Friday ...

PERMANENT CHANGE OF VENUE - to the the "Prince of Orange" in Yatton, 17 High Street, BS49 4JD - The Platform Acoustic Club weekly Open Mic hosted by Barry Walsh - Nice atmosphere with friendly landlord. Admission £2 for performers and audience.

Mangotsfield, The Dragon Folk Club, at the Bridge Inn, Main Road, Shortwood, Mangotsfield, BS16 9NG. It's a traditional type of Folk Club, where people sing in a round from their seating places, with no amplification. Host is Mike Starkey 01454 321 943. On every Friday around 8.15pm. Location Map

East Harptree. The Open Door Acoustic Club at The Waldegrave Arms East Harptree, on the 3rd Friday of each month. Very friendly venue, hosted by Mike and Maire. No amplification, but keyboards can be plugged in if arriving early. For further info tel 0176 122 1448. It's the only Open Mic venue I've happened across that has youngsters regularly playing from about the age of 12.

Saturday ...
St Michaels Hill - First Saturday in month at BAR 155  155 St Michaels Hill, BS2 8DB - The 'Saturday Night Music Club' and Open Mic hosted by Mark Venus - Starts around 8.30pm. This is an acoustic showcase of at least two featured artists, and an Open Mic session. Facebook site

Wookey Hole Acoustic Club  at Wookey Hole, BA5 1BP, on the last Saturday of each month. It's opposite the shop in the village centre in Wookey Hole, not at the Wookey Inn. No amplification. Host and contact is Nicki Davey. Everyone welcome, all ages, styles and abilities are encouraged, but arrive early to be sure of a slot ... 8pm start.  Also welcomed are people who just want to come and listen.

Clifton - NEW VENUE STARTED IN FEB - weekly at the Picture House - Whiteladies Road, 44 Whiteladies Road, BS8 2NH - Hosted by Everton. PA in place. Open Mic from 7pm - 9pm , with a featured artist to follow from 9pm - 10pm. Please check info on the Facebook group just in case there's the odd cancellation.

Redland - NEW VENUE STARTED SUN 21 FEB - at the Shakespeare Pub Lower Redland Road, BS6 6SS - hosted by Barry Walsh - 4.00pm start till 7.00pm. Tel: 0117 973 3909 - In-house PA, all are welcome and performers will get a free drink.

Gloucester Road - NEW VENUE STARTS 7th MARCH - Fortnightly at the Hobgoblin Pub - 69 Gloucester Road, BS7 8AS - Early start from 6.00pm till about 10.00-10:30pm. Hosted by Andrew Binning - The Pub has a lively atmosphere and there's a PA system in situ.

Glos Road - At the "The Prom" bar- NEW IMAGES -> on Gloucester Road - www.theprom.co.uk - Now a proper Open Mic. Starts around 9.00 pm. Now with Excellent PA and lights (and a couple of video screens!). They are promising spotlight gigs for the best performers. The Open Mic is now hosted by local musician Rimas Mollis.

Totterdown -
