Hotwells. The Nova Scotia Folk Club Open Stage Held in a quiet upstairs room af the Nova Scotia Hotel away from the busy bar, so no mic, no amplification, but an appreciative listening audience. £1 admission. Check the website if wishing to do an open mic spot, as some Mondays are 'Special Guest' nights. Address is 1 Nova Scotia Place BS1 6XJ

Clifton, Lower Park Row, UNI of Bristol Folk Club, now back at The Ship Inn  at Lower Park Row, BS1 5BJ Meet every Monday from 9pm. We play in the downstairs room. Everyone welcome. Bring an instrument or come along to enjoy. Sessions are sometimes themed, mostly playing together with occasional solo spots.

Tuesday ...
St Werburghs. Every Tuesday in upstairs room at the Miners Arms, Mina Road, BS2 9YQ. Hosted by Sarah Joy. No amplification, so purely acoustic. Low  lighting, candles and a few 'string-lights', attentive audience. Well-attended by both musicians and audience alike, despite small charge. Close to the St Werburghs Church, the 'Indoor Climbing Centre' - Facebook Group Here.

Redland - at the Shakespeare Pub Lower Redland Road, BS6 6SS - hosted by Barry Walsh - 8.30pm start till 11.00pm. Tel: 0117 973 3909 - In-house PA, all are welcome and performers will get a free drink.

Hotwells - now at the Spring Garden Tavern - 181 Hotwell Road, BS8 4RP (opposite SPAR shop). Nice pub atmosphere, and proper stage with lighting and PA. Hosted most weeks by Neil of 'Funkweed' starting around 9.15pm.
Welsh Back - The Old Duke Open Mic evening hosted by Eddie Martin. Starts around 9pm. If you don't know the location, it's at Welsh Back, opposite the Llandoger Trow Pub, off Queen Square. There is a house Piano available for those handy on the keys.

Stokes Croft - Weekly at the Full Moon Pub Bristol BS1 3PR, hosted by Bobby Anderson of 'Yes Rebels'- Starts at 8.00pm, there is a PA, please bring your own instruments. Good location map on Full Moon website. Bobby on Facebook

St George - NEWLY LISTED 4/10/2011 - Country & Western themed Open Mic - at The Red Lion - 206 Whitehall Road, St George BS5 9BP - You can perform your own favourite country songs or choose from a list provided. Hosted by Alex and Damien - Bring your friends to watch you play or sing backed by the Rhinestone Cowboys (if you wish). 8.30pm start.

Old Market - NEWLY LISTED 6/10/2011 - at the Stag and Hounds - 74 Old Market Street, BS2 0EJ - There's a full PA provided, a welcoming atmosphere and a free drink for all performers, hosted by Mark Legassick from "Howlin' Lord" - 9.00pm - midnight.

Glos Road - The Blue Lagoon Cafe & Bar 20 Gloucester Road, on the 'Promenade' part with the wide pavement, near the Zetland Road traffic-lights. The Open Mic host is Linzi - There is a rather nice built-in PA system there. Starts around 9.00pm.
Fishponds - 2nd Tuesday of month at The Cross Keys Pub 627 Fishponds Road, BS16 3BA (opposite the DSS building near turn-off to Lodge Causeway). Lots of info on the Folk Around Fishponds website. Free entrance. No amplification. Starts around 8pm. 
Nailsea - 2nd Tuesday in month. Nailsea Folk Club  Meet at the Grove Sports Centre, Nailsea, BS48 4NQ. Hosted by 'Rob and Rich'. All welcome to join in, or just sit back and relax with others in an older style folk club done in a 'sing-around' fashion.
Nailsea - The Blue Flame. Seems to be 1st and 3rd Tuesdays. Nailsea, West End. Starts 8pm/8.30pm, really informal singers / musicians night. Postcode BS48 4DE for those with Sat-Nav. Tel: 0127 585 6910 to save wasted journey.

Hotwells - The Rose of Denmark Open Mic, 6 Dowry Place BS8 4QL
- Nice pub atmosphere with space for performers and listeners in music section of the L-shaped bar. It's being newly-hosted by Ben and Nick Davies from 9.00pm till 11.00pm. The piano is no longer there.

Cheltenham Road - At Leftbank  128 Cheltenham Road, BS6 5RW - Hosted by Oliver Dennison - Open stage kitted with a house guitar, drums and PA for musicians of all genres to showcase themselves. Starts around 8.30pm.

Clifton - Every Wednesday at Illusions Bar, 2 Byron Place, on the south side of the Triangle, Clifton, BS8 1JT - hosted by Ryan Inglis - PA in situ, and a Baby Grand Piano available for performers to play - 9.00pm 12-00pm. No Free drinks, but a 'Happy Hour' all night.
Centre - Open Mic night at Mr Wolfs 33 St Stephen's Street (off Baldwin Street) BS1 1JX - Now hosted by Jack Baldus - Starts at 8.30-ish. It's a weekly event, with a headline band to round off the evening after the Open Mic session has finished - Facebook Group Here

Gloucester Road - NEW VENUE STARTING 26th Oct - at the Prince of Wales 5 Gloucester Road, BS7 8AA - Starts 8.00pm. Hosted by Sarah Atkinson. Performers get a Free Pint !!

Barton Hill - NOW CANCELLED - at the Rhubarb Tavern, Queen Ann Road, Barton Hill.

Portishead - at The Poacher - 106 High St BS20 6AJ - All welcome; originals, covers, or musicians wanting to jam. Plenty of house instruments; guitar, bass, keyboard and electric drum-kit as well as effects pedals, amps, PA system and mics. Hosted by Stuart Walsh: 0781 071 8601 - Good performers may get gigs! Starts about 8:45 and continues till 11pm. Plenty of parking.

Clevedon. The Moon and Sixpence Pub on Clevedon Seafront, at 15 The Beach, has an open mic evening with amplification, and the PA is set quite loud. It's a busy Pub. Open Mic starts around 8.30 - 9.00pm
Clevedon. The Royal Oak Pub at 35 Copse Road, Clevedon, Map Tel: 01275 873 075. Folk Night, people generally go along for a jamming session, everyone plays together/sings together, sometimes busy from the start, sometimes not till later on, any types of instrument or music.  Back room used is small and maybe room for up to 30 people. Can be a really interesting night and lots of fun. Starts about 8.30pm.

Stokes Croft - at The Arts House Cafe / Bar, 108 Stokes Croft, BS1 3RU - in the downstairs room, starts around 8.00pm. Very Poetry based Open Mic with no PA, but singers and others welcome.

Stokes Croft - 1st and 3rd Thurs at No 51 Stokes Croft (formerly The Junction) BS1 3QP - On 1st Thurs it's hosted by Lady Nade - Facebook link and on 3rd Thurs (called "Open Tales" and in a different format) it's hosted by Annie Callaghan and Jimmy Aldridge  - starts around 9.00pm. PA supplied. All welcome.

Broadmead - 2nd and 4th Thursday at The Bank Tavern, 8 John Street, BS1 2HR - In an alley which runs from near the bottom of Broad Street down towards the Central Police Station in Broadmead - It's a little tricky to find - Run by Neil Murray (aka 'Rufus T Firefly') from 8.30pm till midnight - PA in situ. Clifton - at The Royal Oak Pub, 1st Thurday of month only at The Mall, Clifton, BS8 4JG - From 9pm till 11.30pm, hosted by Lee Chaplin, Everybody welcome, PA supplied. Evening finishes with a Jam session.

Friday ...

Easton. 1st Friday of the month. Kebele 14 Robertson Road, Easton. A 50% Poetry / 50% Music mix. 8pm start, amplification is provided, but generally not used as it's a smallish room. "Kebele welcomes all to this unrestrained and uproarious monthly Open Mic session" Location map

Mangotsfield, The Dragon Folk Club, at the Bridge Inn, Main Road, Shortwood, Mangotsfield, BS16 9NG. It's a traditional type of Folk Club, where people sing in a round from their seating places, with no amplification. Host is Mike Starkey 01454 321 943. On every Friday around 8.15pm. Location Map

Gloucester Road - At the "The Prom" bar  on Gloucester Road - www.theprom.co.uk - Now a proper Open Mic. Starts around 9.00 pm. Now with Excellent PA and lights (and a couple of video screens!). They are promising spotlight gigs for the best performers. The Open Mic is now hosted by local musician Rimas Mollis.

Redcliffe - At the Golden Guinea, Guinea Steet,  BS1 6XS - A mix of invited Guest performers and some opportunities for Open Mic performers. 8.00pm - 11.00pm. House guitar available. Hosted by Alex Furr and Paul Tierney.
